Anna's Hummingbird, February, 1998 (Fuji Velvia)

These Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) photos were taken in my back yard in Fremont, California.  The camera used was a Canon EOS 630 with an EF300/4.0L lens and 25mm extention tube.  Illumination was by multiple Canon speedlites, including one on-camera.

   Anna's Hummingbird, August 12, 1998 (Fuji Velvia)

During the day, this particular bird often perched here, "guarding" his feeder.  Photos were taken through an open window from within the house; the bird ignored the flash entirely.  The camera used was a Canon EOS 620 with an EF300/4.0L lens and 25mm extention tube.  Illumination was a single on-camera Canon 540EZ speedlite with a Lepp extender.

Anna's Hummingbird, January 2, 1999 (Kodak Royal Gold 25)

In December, 1998, we experienced a rare "hard freeze" in central California.  This male Anna's hummingbird, an apparent casualty, was discovered a week later, dead, but feathers well preserved.  In addition to the beautiful iridescent colors hummers are famous for, the body feathers are also quite beautiful.  I used a Canon EOS A2E (with mirror lock-up) and EF50/2.5 macro lens (some with 25mm extension tube) for these pictures.  Illumination was direct sunlight.
