These dragonfly photos were taken in August, 1998, at Birch Lake, just west of Yosemite National Park. All of these dragonflys were live and easily frightened away. They usually stayed at one spot for only a few seconds, but would often return to the exact location again and again. The lenses that I used enabled me to photograph them from a distance of about 6 feet (2 meters). Click on picture for larger image (34K-52K).

The film used was Kodak Gold 100. Scans were Photo CD by Kodalux. Thumbnail images are 128 X 192 scans. Second images are 512 X 768 scans. Larger scans are cropped from either 1024 X 1536 or 2048 X 3072 scans. Contrast, density, and sharpening modifications were kept to a minimum; no other digital manipulation was employed.
