Personal Meanderings

On Parenting

Since I have an older child (20 years old) who has been raised in the attachment style, I know that this kind of parenting results in a delightfully confident, loving, self-assured and considerate child. I like to use our experiences to illustrate various concepts that I believe have contributed to that positive "end-product".

One such concept is that of allowing children some autonomy over their own lives, starting at an early age. Click HERE if you'd like to read something I wrote recently about that concept. There's a similar article called "Confessions of a Proud Mom" by Jan Hunt, M.Sc., the director of The Natural Child Project.

Is your kid's messy room driving you bananas? Stop taking it all so seriously and implement [drum roll, please] Cecilia's Rules for Messy Kids' Rooms.

Every year, as we approach the winter holidays, I hear questions and comments from other parents about whether children should be told there's no such thing as Santa Claus or whether they should be allowed to believe in the Jolly Old Elf. Here are some thoughts on that topic, based on my own personal experience as a child. And here's another reminiscence about Santa and Christmas Past from one of my email friends, Carolyn B.
