SAH-AP EMAIL NETIQUETTE

When you send a post to sah-ap@kjsl.com, your post will be distributed to at least 250 people. The following guidelines have been set up in order to help maintain a smooth running list. This message will go out to the sah-ap list from time to time to serve as a reminder.

The SAH-AP Charter is automatically sent out to everyone upon subscription. It is located at: http://www.kjsl.com/sah-ap. Please be sure to understand everything within the charter before posting to the list. If you are having problems understanding the charter, please address your questions to karen@kjsl.com.

Send posts in plain text only. Do not send e-mails with styled text, attached files, embedded graphics or HTML pages.

Posting styles are not up for discussion on sah-ap@kjsl.com. Keep in mind it is not possible for any one person on the sah-ap list to post in a way which takes into account everyone's feelings. It is not OK to challenge or criticize someone else's posting style On List. If you feel offended by a post someone sent to the list and you feel a need to let that person know how offended you are, please do it Off List. If you are offended by the 'tone' of the list and you feel you must address this, please address it off list with those who you feel are setting the overall 'tone' you perceive. It is not your job to moderate the sah-ap list.

Please do not discuss which SAH-AP Posts or Topics are Off Topic for the SAH-AP List on the SAH-AP List. If anyone wants to conduct an email discussion of which Posts or Topics are suitable for SAH-AP, how often these Posts or Topics should come up, and the number of Posts that should be assigned to a Topic in any given period of time, please take it to private email. Please remember that not all Posts or Topics are going to interest everyone on the SAH-AP List. If you don't like a Post or Topic or if you are not interested in a Post or Topic, or if you find the Post or Topic distasteful, or if you believe the Post or Topic to be Off Topic, or if you believe the Post or Topic is too boring, simply make it disappear with the Delete Key. If you are sick and tired of reading Posts or topics which appear to dominate the list, feel free to introduce a new Post containing a New Topic. If the New Topic doesn't take off, feel free to keep introducing New Topics.

If someone from the list sends you private email which you find offensive and you feel you must do something about it, please do not post the private email to the list or send it to the list owner. Please direct such complaints to the author of the email or the the author's ISP. Posting private email to the SAH-AP list without the author's permission is grounds for removal from the list.

Sharing SAH-AP posts with those who are not subscribed to the list without the original author's permission is not acceptable and could result in removal from the SAH-AP List.

Do not send trivial responses to the list. Examples of trivial responses: "Me too!" "Ha, Ha!" "I was wondering that too." "Thanks!" "Congratulations!". These kinds of responses should be sent privately to the person you are responding to.

Do not quote the entire post when mailing a follow-up note. It is rarely needed since most people have read the original. When responding, quote enough of the original post in order to keep context. It is also acceptable to paraphrase the original post before responding.

Change the subject header if you are changing the topic.

Do not post "virus warnings" to the list. If there is a virus warning to be concerned about, the list maintainer will send the warning. If you want more info on virus hoaxes, check out:  http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html.

Do not post urban legends to the list. If you receive an email from someone else encouraging you to pass on the information to as many people as possible, it is probably a hoax. Instead of passing the hoax along, check out http://www.snopes.com or http://www.urbanlegends.com/.

Posts containing HTML, Mime, Attached Files (including photos), and multiple recipients (Cross Posting) will automatically be held up by the listserv. This means that these posts will not go to the list until the HTML, Mime, Attached Files, and Multiple Recipients are removed.
If you do not agree to the SAH-AP Charter and the SAH-AP Email Netiquette guidelines, please unsubscribe from the sah-ap mailing list.
